How hard is it to find work in Spain with only basic Spanish?
Quote from travellinlife on February 6, 2025, 11:30 pmHi, I'm a chef from England and have just returned from travelling in Central America. I am in Spain now and having trouble finding opportunities for work. My Spanish is pretty basic but I worked in a hotel in Nicaragua with all local chefs and managed fine. I realise the economy/employment situation in Spain but any tips, advice, websites would be great.
Muchas gracias

Quote from Gap Year World on February 27, 2025, 10:56 amSpain has some of the highest unemployment in Europe but there are opportunities to work there. Maybe try improving your Spanish in your free time as being fluent will really improve your chances of finding employment. Also you will usually need an EU passport as without it you will need to get a company to sponsor your visa which can be difficult.

Quote from Arjun on September 26, 2025, 11:30 amI'm looking to do a work experience program in Barcelona next summer and my Spanish is basic at best. But there are lots of companies who hire English speakers but I guess it depends on the industry. Or have you thought about taking Spanish classes? I'm sure this would boost your employment prospects.
