How safe is volunteering abroad

My daughter had a talk at her school with a volunteering organisation who offer trips to Borneo and she really wants to go. The trips do look fun, although the prices are astronomical but my main concern is safety. If anyone could share any experiences to put my mind at ease that would be appreciated.

Most structured trips are safe, but like travelling anywhere there is always a risk. I'm sure if you e-mail the company to raise any concerns they will be able to help.
