how to tell my parents I want to take a gap year

I don't feel ready to go to university in September and I have come round to the idea of a gap year. But how do I tell my parents this when I know they won't be supportive or approve of the idea?

I know this might sound obvious but maybe try speaking to them, you never know they might be open minded.
