What is the best 120 hour online TEFL course?
Quote from samanthab on February 3, 2025, 10:08 pmI'm totally new to the TEFL world and as a beginner I want to start with one of the basic courses to start and I read the 120 hour is best to take. I know there are more advanced courses available like CELTA but these look a bit complicated so I think an introductory level course would be best for me, But so many companies offer the 120 hour certification, can anyone recommend me one to go with as a newbie?

You can browse TEFL certifications here.
Some advice, there are some very good programs around, but you have to make sure they've been examined and accredited by some agency other than a variation of themselves - especially if they claim to be "internationally recognized." There are programs that are internationally known and respected, but a formal system of credible international "recognition" doesn't exist and a claim of it is a very good reason to put your training dollars somewhere else.
There are enough reputable training sources (both distance-delivered and face-to-face) that there's no need to throw money away on incompetently designed read-and-clicks that have given online learning such a poor reputation in the global TEFL field, or on practica that don't incorporate professional standards of supervision and guidance. Personally, I think we owe it to EFL learners to find something better, if we're going to be taking their money.
Selectivity about training sources becomes especially important if it turns out you're one of the people who falls in love with the TESL field and wants to stay in it after returning home. It's better to invest in a credible foundational program in the first place, so you don't have to start training all over again in order to be eligible for work in your home country.
