I'm always very sceptical about any place you have to pay to volunteer. If you have the skills/qualifications to assist then why are you having to also pay? If you don't have the skills, then what are they taking you on for except free money? Obviously this is a general opinion, I don't know the volunteering projects you want to work on. Definitely worth having a close look before signing up name often paying a lot of money.
